What would happen to my puppy if she prefers eating adult dog food?
My puppy is ten months old, and she recently started hating the puppy food we usually give her. So my mom bought Kibbles N Bits "Golden Years" for ages 7 yrs+ (she didn’t realize what is was) So we put it next to her food and she eats the stuff like its candy. I just found out it was for adults, but is it really going to harm her?

Nothing will happen to your puppy for eating adult food, however Kibbles N’Bits is a very crappy food. It is full of cheap fillers, preservatives, dyes & sugars.
Get a better qaulity food such as Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul, Innova, Solid Gold, Merrick just to name a few. These are all quality meat based foods with no dyes, cheap fillers, by products & other junk. The better quality the food the less they will eat, the less poop will be produced and the healthier your dog will be.
it is bad for growth…it may affect her growth.
It is not going to harm her necessarily but it is not nutritionally adequate or balanced for her. An adult food would be better than the food you described as a senior food actually. If she no longer will eat the puppy food it would be okay for her at 10 months to switch to a regular adult food.
Nothing.
no it will not hurt her. Just buy regular dog food next time. Puppy food is too fattening anyway. I never give puppy food to puppies. I always buy Innova all life stages dog food for any puppy I happen to rescue. (I do not breed dogs)
Food for older dogs is lower in calories, if he is 10 months old he needs lots of calories and protein, which is what is in puppy food. I don’t think it will seriously hurt her, but you should at least put her on adult dog food, rather than food for senior pets.
at her age it should not really matter and its best she eats something she likes than not eat at all its just best suited for older dogs so probably has different vitamins in
adult food is one thing—-that is SENIOR dog food. They’ve added stuff to make it taste good to tempt older dogs that have lost their appetites.
Will it hurt her to eat a bag of the stuff? no, but it won’t be as good for her as puppy food. She shouldn’t stay on the stuff permanently.
Many top breeders never use puppy food period so a top quality adult food is fine but Kibbles N Bits is crap food, the pup loves it because it is loaded with sugar and fillers. It is like feeding your toddler a diet of twinkies and Coke, it probably won’t kill them but it will make them unhealthy and they will not grow to their full potential. Senior food is not adult food tho and only for seniors and some trainers use it on aggressive adults.
It’s not going to hurt her, no. At 10 months old, she’s done nearly all her growing anyway, and would not be far off coming off puppy food anyway. One bag of anything certainly isn’t going to make much difference anyway.
I would move on to an adult rather than a ‘senior’ formula with the next bag you get. I would also suggest moving away from supermarket brands.
What breed is she? Some have particular needs – if she’s a giant breed for instance she will not be fully grown until she’s closer to 2 years old so it would be wise to keep her on a puppy food specifically for giant breeds.
Chalice
It won’t hurt her. A breeder I know stops feeding puppy food before ten months as she says they grow too fast…too MUCH protein!
