How to take care of a puppy? ?
i been waiting years to get a puppy now i am going to get one in about a week.. but i don’t know how i should take care of it or what should i should teach it when i first get him.
do you guys have any tips?

House Training
House training your dog is simple if you follow a few basic rules. Remember that puppies younger than 10 to 12 weeks have little control. Accidents will always happen when teaching puppies to be clean in the house. Be kind and patient, and reward handsomely all outdoor elimination. Always remember that dogs do what works for them. Make outdoor pottying work really well for your puppy.
1) The puppy must have NO time unsupervised in your home. NONE. If you are not directly watching the puppy, it should be in the crate, or outside in a safe area. You MUST watch the puppy at ALL times when loose in the house. Use baby gates, crates, or tie the leash to your belt.
2) The puppy should sleep inside the crate by your bedside. This way you can hear if the puppy should happen to need to go out during the night.
3) You must go WITH the puppy outside for ALL trips for elimination. You must have treats with you. When the puppy is urinating, say "GO PEE PEE" in a nice praise tone of voice the entire time. When she is finished, pop the treat into her mouth at once, and praise praise praise. This should be something she gets at no other time, like tiny pieces of string cheese or boiled chicken. Same for defecation. Say "GO POOP" while she is going, and food reward and praise afterwards. You must observe and reward ALL outdoor potty time.
4) Keep a schedule. Feed at the same time, and walk outside at the same times. Your pup needs at least 4 trips outdoors each day, and 5 is probably better. Pup needs to go out at wake up time, lunch time, 4-5 PM, after dinner or any other meals, and before bed. Younger puppies may need to go out much more often.
5) Use a key word each time you go out. I say "Let’s go out!!" in a happy tone of voice each time I’m opening the door to go out with the dog.
6) If you catch the puppy IN THE ACT of eliminating in your house, CLAP YOUR HANDS, say AH AH, OUTSIDE!! And immediately rush her outside. If she finishes there, do your usual food reward and praise.
The keys to getting your dog reliably housetrained are:
SUPERVISION: NO loose time in the house if you are not watching
REWARDS: ALL outdoor elimination MUST be observed and rewarded. If you only do this ONE thing, your puppy will get housetrained.
PATIENCE: Anger and punishment have no place in dog training. Elimination is a natural and pleasurable experience for your dog. You can teach her to not soil your house, but punishment will NOT help. It will only teach the dog to hide when she needs to eliminate.
If you have applied these techniques carefully for 4 weeks and you are still finding spots or piles after the fact, it’s time for stronger measures. Roll up a newspaper and fasten both ends with a rubber band. Keep it handy. The very next time you find a spot of a pile that the dog has left behind, whip out that newspaper, and hit YOURSELF over the head firmly several times as you repeat "I FORGOT TO WATCH MY PUPPY".

Okay well first of you need to buy essentials such as a bed for it, a water bowl(always have fresh water for it to drink) a food bowl (give him/her a mixed diet with dry and wet foods) and play toys. you also need to show it love and affection. you can start to train it from the day you get it. simple things like saying sit and if it does give it a treat. next teach it to roll over or fetch. its up to you.
also take it for a walk once a week to get it out of the house.
also have it registered so if it gets lost you can track it down
also buy a collar with its name and your mums contact number
see thats y ppl say don’t get a dog u have been waiting for years which means years u could have had to figure out how to take care of a puppy i don’t no how ur parents got u one
Before you get the puppy, (Emphasis on the before) get all the essentials.
You will need a bed, possibly a crate, food bowls(normal bowls will do), a type of puppy food, a puppy collar, and a leash.
The first couple of weeks with the puppy, don’t teach it anything. In the first weeks, the puppy just needs to adjust to it’s new life. You can try repeating it’s name when your around it also. When you first have little puppies, don’t walk them too much, or else they will get tired too easily.
If your puppy pees a few times in the first weeks, forgive it. They are little, and new to the whole potty training thing. Take the puppy to the bathroom 5-10 minutes after they eat or drink.

Well it is a very difficult task to take care of a puppy until they are about 14 months old. You have to take them outside a lot to let them do their "business" because they are to young to let you know they have to go. Also they are always hungry. So be sure to keep his dish full! They are very cuddly and playful so that won’t be a problem! Have fun with your new puppy! :] ( stephanie….. you r very negative….. and a little rude…. no offense…)
Make sure you don’t get plastic bowls. Get metal for food &nd ceramic for water.
Your gonna need some bitter apple spray for the teething stage your puppy will go through.

Im not sure how young of a puppy you will be getting but thats so exciting.
I would make sure (which im sure you’ve already done) that you have a supply of puppy items that you’re going to need the first few months….
food & water bowls, dog food, crate, some chew toys
Make it comfortable for your puppy- new home, new owner, new everything so your puppy may be a little nervous- when you put the puppy to sleep at night and it starts whining put a ticking clock with the pup (resembles the heartbeat of its mother- which helps soothe the pup)
Potty training is key so take you puppy out (when i first got my 9 week old puppy i took her out probably 8-10 times a day. But within a month she picked it up and starting using a doggie door to go outside.)
I also petted my puppy while she was eating- to get her used to me touching her when she eats- just as a safety precaution
Puppy shots- there are a slew of shots you have to get the first 6 months of the puppy’s life
Register and Microchip your puppy
Enjoy your puppy and take lots of pics!
