How much food exactly am I to feed a black lab puppy of 10 weeks?
My lil black lab is 10 and a half weeks old. He gets puppy food, dry food only, NO human food. We feed him 1/3cup of food, 3 times a day but recently have switched to a 1/2 cup three times a day because he was looking thin. Now he looks a lil chubby haha is this just my imagination?

You might try to find a vet who will work with you and your dogs nutrition. Since you are just starting out with a dog, this is a good time for you to break the myth that human food is bad for dogs. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite- dry and canned dog food is the worst for dogs. Many of of the nations best vets and pet nutritionists will tell you that. Get one of the popular pet food recipe books and consider eventually making your own dog food and find a vet who won’t persuade you otherwise. Your dog will undoubtedly live longer, feel better, and encounter fewer health problems. It’s not hard to do!
My dog eats avocados, tofu, chicken, spinach, eggs, rice, and a variety of other healthy foods that make her a very happy pup!
OH don’t worry my pup does the same.. she is about 15 weeks old.. The vet said to feed her 2-3 cups of food divided 2-3 times a day.. My puppy looks fat sometimes and thin other times. On Christmas her belly was about twice what if normally was but the next day she looked normal. Part of it is water weight, I think. She’s a German Shepherd, by the way. The vet said to make sure I don’t over feed her because it can cause joint problems if she were to grow too fast. He also said to feed her large breed puppy food because it has reduced calories.
You can look on the bag of food it will tell you how much food your pup should be getting. The better quality of food the less they will eat… Goodluck with your new pup.
What sort of food are you giving him? According to my bag of IAMS for puppies, 2 3/4 cup to 3 1/2 cups assuming she is 10-20 pounds. Thats not really enough…You are imagining, she’s just growing–if she is fat, pretty soon she’ll have a growth spurt and the fat will redistribute. Don’t worry though once she gets over 16 weeks or so, the portions start going down until they are about 1/2 cup to a cup.
I feed my Labrador (3 months almost 4) 3/4 of a cup. I would say do in between 1/3 and 1/2 a cup. Or, if you really are debating, take a quick trip to the vet with him, just to double check!
A puppy eats a lot of food. From birth up to six months of age, he’ll need to eat two to four times as much as an adult dog to support all that growth. A good rule of thumb (paw?) is that after his first week of life, when his weight doubles from what it was at birth, a puppy should gain one to two grams per pound of anticipated adult weight each day. This means that if your German Shepherd puppy weighs 75 pounds as an adult, he should gain three to five ounces per day as a puppy.

hi,
As more people understand the importance of nutrition to their own health, they’re starting to consider what’s in their dog’s food bowl as well. Food manufacturers are only too happy to oblige, and the latest products are likely to be labeled natural or organic, and include ingredients said to promote health, such as blueberries and salmon oil. That said, it can still be a challenge to sort out high-quality chow from the canine equivalent of junk food.
