Does anybody know of a good Portuguese Water Dog breeder around New York (within a 3 hour drive)? (10 points!)?
Please don’t refer me to pwdca.org. I’ve been there, and I’ve contacted the very tiny number of breeders that are listed there and none of them seem to be having litters in the near future. Also, please don’t refer me to guidelines about finding a good breeder. I already have a Portuguese Water Dog and I know what I need to look for. I just want some names so that I can look into them, because my breeder isn’t having a litter any time soon either. The first response to give me information that I don’t already have will get ten points. Anyone who says something even slightly helpful will get a thumbs up
Thank you!!
I’ve looked for adult or older puppies. They are even harder to find. Portuguese Water Dogs aren’t really the kind of breed, it seems, that you find in shelters…at least not until the Obamas get them and they start overbreeding them like crazy!! ![]()
(within 1000 miles of me, at least!!)

She’s amazing!!
Why do you need to get it from a breeder? Be vary carefuly and warey of breeders that are any other place but a member of dog breed CLUB. I seen the tragic results of people trying to get the dog quicker from less reliable place which not only cost less in purchase fees, but more in veterinary fees aka i’m talking about newspaper adds and backyard breeders! Shelter, pounds and rescues are excempt from this.
Is there any urgancy to have the puppy or dog now? Why not just wait and put your name down at shelter, rescues and pounds and sure a Portugese Water dog will come.
Have you thought about rescuing a Portugese Water dog puppy or older adult?
Some breeders often have former breeding dogs available.

Did you try http://www.akc.org? You might have better luck there. Also, the person who bred the dog you already have, if it’s a good one, may be able to refer you to someone else. A trip to an all-breed dog show will likely find some people who are either breeders or can refer you to their breeders. While I can’t guaranty any of the people who advertise in the magazines, Dog World and Dog Fancy usually have a lot of breeders listed in their classifieds sections.
