How do i care for a puppy with a heart murmur?
We are going to pick up a 13 week old puppy from a rescue on tuesday and were told that the puppy has a grade 3-4 heart murmur. She is a full bred GSD and we were just wondering if this is something that she will grow out of or something that will be with her for the rest of her life? how do you take care of a dog with a heart murmur? how long is the life expetancy? thank you

Grade 3-4 is more serious than 1-2. This puppy will tire more easily, may get a cough meaning there’s fluid on the lungs and dogs with this grade of heart murmur sometimes need to be put on meds. For specifics on this puppy, you’d need to talk to a vet.
Your puppy should for the most part life a normal life. But you will have to be careful when it might have to go to sleep for surgery. To have a grade 3-4 heart murmur at such a young age is rare. Your puppy probably will not grow out of the murmur, that is rare. I’m not sure what kind of breed your GSD is but it should live a normal life. Talk to your local vet when you take it for an exam.
