That’s a hard one.. cause you don’t want to come across as someone who is criticizing them.. Do you have a dog that is close to their dog’s age?? You could show them what your dog has learned, As a proud parent of course, Maybe they’ll realize that their dog doesn’t know near that much, or isn’t that well trained.. And you can tell them what you did with your dogs to get them to be the way they are.. They might be the kind of people who think you are dog freaky tho and won’t listen no matter what you try to do.. You could offer to walk their dog for them thru the day.. Tell them you see him over there and he seems lonely, would he like to come and play with your puppies a couple of times a week.. Maybe they’ll see what a difference some play time makes..
I doubt that it would do much good, but is worth a try. Most dog neglect is a matter of laziness, or apathy, rather than ignorance.
Anyway, taking over some good dog magazines as a gift may help. It would give the opening to discussions of pet care. Even old mags, if you have them around will be gladly accepted, IF they actually care about the puppy.
I used to take my magazines to work, and it was great to hear my co-workers discussing the articles.
You could also take over some homemade dog treats, and that would create the opening, too..You might even show them how to teach sit/stay/down, using the treats..As they take pride in the puppy, ( how quickly it learns) they may value it more.
I would just call animal control. Leaving a dog out on a leash, alone, is neglect. You won’t change your neighbor’s minds, and you could create a long term animosity situaiton – which you do nto want.
Remind them that puppies are like babies!!! They learn best by constant reminders and lots of attention. Perhaps giving them a little care package with a book on dogs and some treats and a toy. This will ensure your jesture is all in good favor!!!
I hope it helps…..I hate to hear that little puppy is outside. I am sure the biggest reason it is outside is because they don’t want it messing in the house.
Perhaps you could just ask them. Tell them the puppy looks very sad all day and he appears to miss them. Maybe this will make them participate in his life more!!
As said the previous answerer, it may be difficult in having them being open to suggestions.
However if you try to demonstrate the utility of educating the puppy, you may get some results.
start like :
If you let your puppy in the garden, he will take the habit to make his needs in the garden. The garden may start stinking seriously, specially in 2 years, when some will be absorbed by the earth … your garden will be difficult to get rid of this dirty smell. … you can bring him for a walk, he will take the habit of …. it is good for him too …. the garden will be clean, your future child can play in the garden without …
a selling process in sum.
But when they do not want … good luck
That is hard. Is there an animal activist group in your aria? Sometime they can help and keep you out of it. People like that don’t need animals. Maybe you could say to them something like your dogs really don’t need to be in the heat or cold all day. Do they have food, shelter, and water? If not you may want to see what the law is in your state. In mine it’s called ill treatment of animals and is against the law. People go to jail for that. GOOD LUCK!!!
