I just got a new dog (Portuguese water dog) and my know-it-all friend said I should get in circumcised.?
I just got a new dog (Portuguese water dog) and my know-it-all friend said I should get in circumcised in addition to neutered. He claims it’s for hygiene purposes more than anything else. Has anyone ever heard of this? Any pros or cons?

Dogs don’t have foreskins. I think your "friend" is a little too focused on himself.
I have never heard of that before I think your friend has been smoking too much of the happy plant. If you dog is nuetered it should be fine.

I have never in my life heard of circumsizing a dog. However, neutering a dog is a great idea. It makes them less likely to roam and also lets them live longer. Hope this helps!

umm……..I wouldnt get my dogs circumsised there really isnt much of a point.
dogs aren’t circumcised. your friend is a dumbass, don’t let him near your dog. but you do need to get him neutered. it’s healthier for him in the long run. take him to the vet for a checkup, and talk to the vet. and kick your friend for me, huh?
Dogs don’t get circed. If you plan to have him show, do not surgically alter him at all. If he meets breed standards, you may show him and possibly make a little money. In all my years of breeding dogs, I have never heard of such a hair-brained idea. If he’s to be a pet, neuter him soon.

I think your friend is the one that needs to be neutered.
If you do neuter the dog, I strongly suggest that you wait until he is at least 1 years old, and the reason for this is that the male dogs need the testosterone to help them grow up strong. This is what my breeder told me, and she has been breeding Portuguese water dogs for many years.
