What Do You Think About Obama Getting A Portuguese Water Dog?
Tell me what you think!
For those of you that don’t know a Portuguese Water Dog has hair like we do, not fur so unless Obama’s daughter is alergic to human hair she will be fine. I have a Porchie and they’re great dogs!

I think it would be a good choice because they are a good hypoallergenic choice, Melia wanted a medium to large size dog, and Obama said that he wanted an active dog that he and the kids could play with. (Wonder who wanted the puppy more – his daughters or Obama – lol). So the PWD fits the bill. I have a friend whose child had allergies but wanted a dog ( and so did the mom as she always had dogs growing up like I did), and they are an active family and they love their PWD and I think he is a great dog too. He’s smart and they did a good job training him.
I think the family should get what they want. It is not really anyone else’s business.
would be a good dog for his kids.

I think the family needs to choose based on what will fit their lifestyle.
I cant suggest a dog for them, because I know nothing about them, other than the one girl is allergic. For example, I dont know if the kids are active and like to play outside alot, or if they are less active and would prefer a dog that would be content to play indoor games. If they are more active, then a PWD or a Standard Poodle may be a good choice, but if they are wanting more of a small, snuggly dog, then a toy poodle may be a better choice.
That they should be allowed to get whichever breed of dog they want.
I don’t even support Obama and I even know his one daughter is allergic to dogs.
They have to get a non allergy dog
Like a wheaten terrier
there are not that many dogs out there they can choose from
OK, the hair vs fur thing is BS for one thing. Yes, those dogs with curly hair like fur will produce less allergens because they shed less, but they are NOT non allergenic since the allergens are really dander and saliva. The shedding just means more skin cells and saliva are being dropped. She will not necessarily be fine.
And since they have gotten badgered into promising to adopt a dog, I think a Portuguese Water Dog may be a bit tougher to find then *gag* a "goldendoodle" or another mutt, or even just a poodle. Even then she may have problems.
They are also very active dogs, so it depends on how much work they are willing to put into it or how much work they are willing to get someone else to do.
I think it is a personal decision which his family should make. I am more concerned if I are going to be able to afford to feed and care for my animals for another few years with the current condition of this country. I would be happy to apply for dog trainer, groomer, walker etc. At least I would know I had work for the next four years.
Nobody gave a rats butt about Bush getting a Scottie or Clinton getting Buddy.
Personally, I hope he gets a adult shelter dog that is already housebroken so that it isn’t pooping all over the White House.
As long as they support a shelter/rescue or a responsible breeder and give the dog a good home, I dont care about the breed. Whatever they do, they have to show a good example of the dog. That means learning to speak dog and understanding what the dog says and feels as much as you can tell when your friend is upset or cant wait to tell you something.
