Dogs are dubbed as man’s best friends because these animals are generally loyal, affectionate, and friendly and show their gentle nature to the family. However, some breeds are naturally aggressive so that ownership of these dogs is prohibited in some countries. Breeds of dogs that were specifically bred to be utilized as protection dogs are actually trained to hone an already aggressive temperament.

After domestication, dogs have become well loved and loyal companions of man for thousands of years. In spite of the long years of domestication, the inherent predatory and ferocious nature was retained by dogs so that it would be too easy even for a gentle dog to be aggressive. Because of this, over 4 million dog bite incidents occur in United States every year. Majority of the dog bite cases were caused by the victim’s own dogs. It is therefore necessary to learn how approach a dog.

Dog owners, especially the children must know how to approach a dog. Dogs are highly territorial and food motivated. A dog will guard its territory, food and toys. Even the most gentle dog would react ferociously if a threat to its territory is perceived. It would never be wise to just approach the dog to get a toy or to get the food bowl especially if the dog is eating. Even if your intention is to add more food to the bowl, the dog can still bite.

Children are always attracted to dogs. Kids would always want to hug and cuddle a sleeping pet. However, even a gentle pet can bite instinctively if startled. Children must be made to understand that it is dangerous to startle a sleeping dog. Dogs must be approached slowly and make sure that the dog can see you.

The dog may tolerate the family members to invade its territory but a ferocious temperament will be shown at the intrusion of other people. Dog lovers will always be enticed to touch a handsome dog. A gentle looking dog though may turn aggressive to the touch of an unfamiliar person . Get the owner’s permission to touch the dog. Even with the owner around, take care not to approach the dog directly and be careful not to stare at the dog as a stare can be viewed by the dog as a challenge. Extend a hand with the fingers curled under or the palm down to be sniffed by the dog. A friendly dog will sniff the offered hand.

Dogs are formidable predators as the capability of the teeth and the jaws to deliver up to 450 pound pressure can create serious injuries. When a dog bites, the sharp teeth will sink in the flesh, the strong jaws will lock creating either deep puncture wounds or serious lacerations. One reason why people are intimidated by dogs is because a serious dog bites can maim the victim for life. Dog bites that result to serious injuries can lead to the death of the victim. Wounds are not the only concerns of dog bite victims because when the teeth puncture the flesh infection and disease-causing bacteria are injected on the puncture wounds as well. One of the life threatening consequences of dog bite is rabies.

Because of humans’ constant interaction with dogs, dog bites cannot be totally prevented. Dog bites that are most common in children are often caused by the family’s own dog. So, how do you treat a dog bite?

First aid must be administered on dog bite wounds to prevent infection but treatment must not be started until the dog is removed to prevent further attacks. A dog bite can either be deep puncture wound or lacerations. Infection commonly occurs in deep puncture wounds as the teeth inject bacteria to the wound. Lacerations occur when the dog’s teeth tear away the skin.

Puncture wounds normally don’t bleed profusely thus the wound has to be allowed to bleed for a few minutes to flush out the bacteria from the wound. Lacerations commonly bleed profusely. By applying direct pressure on the wound, bleeding can be stopped. To prevent infection, wounds resulting from dog bites must be thoroughly cleaned.

Serious skin lacerations resulting from dog bites cannot be treated at home as the wound normally needs to be sutured however, thorough cleaning of the dog bite would still be necessary so as not to give the bacteria a chance to cause infection. The risk of infection can be minimized by washing the bite wound with an antibacterial soap for about five minutes. Before covering the bite wound with sterile gauze, apply a generous amount of antibiotic ointment. As expected, a person with dog bite wounds would be in pain. By applying ice compress, the swelling that causes most of the pain will be reduced.

Rabies is a potential health risk that will devastate dog bite victims particularly if it is impossible to verify whether the dog has had rabies vaccination. f the dog bite is caused by a stray dog it is imperative for the victim to be immunized against the rabies virus .

Because of  all the controversial and new recall of dog foods, is it any wonder that pet owners prefer making their own homemade dog food for their beloved dogs in light of all the commercial bad dog food that has been taken off the store shelves because they have feared that it has been contaminated.

  • What results can bad dog food or in other words contminated dog food do to your pet ?
  • What can you do to keep it from happening?
  • What is all the fuss about that has pet owners so angry ?

As humans we are discouraged from eating too many canned goods for reasons of good wellness. The same should hold true for dogs and other animals.

Ready prepared dog food, often in gravy or jelly is packed in tins . and like some human ready made meals contains a variety of nasty and dangerous ingredients are used to improve colour, flavor and visual aspect.

What is even more distressing, when it comes to animal food, is the fact that animal by-products, the main ingredient in bad dog food, has already been bombarded with chemicals long before it reaches the processing factory . This means that food labels on the cans can often be missleading deceptive ambiguous to the ‘No Preservatives’ assurance .

Dry dog food is even worse as it doesn’t have the tinning preserving process to go through with.  Therefore more preserving chemicals have to be used to draw out the keeping qualities of de-hydrated dog food.

Another concern comes from the quality of items used themselves, usually meat, fowl, and grains . These contents have all been classed as ‘not fit for human consumption’.  They are made up of the innards , blood, and bones and these make up the by-products that are grounded and blended into what we know as ‘commercial dog food’. In reality, they are really bad dog food dressed up .

The whole point is that it is not always officially slaughted animals that make their way into pet food, but often, unhealthy meat from farm animals are included. And bacteria, like Salmonella and E coli, that have been flourishing in these meats do not always die during the method of preserving .  Let alone the fact that this cooking destroys almost all of the original healthy content .

Furthermore, when artificial , unnatural additives and moldy wheat is thrown and twisted into the mixture, the numbers of which are too many to add up ,  then you are left with poisonous pet cocktail. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that this spells disaster for your family dog .

Below are some of the symptoms that can be assoiciated with bad dog food:

puking, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.  More dangerous toxins , like butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), ethoxyquin and cf1 butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) that are accepted as alright in small doses are cancer causing and can cause organ failure, and ultimately, death when gulped down on a daily basis after some time.

So what can you,do about all this? Demand for better quality food from pet food creators , turn to organic, healthy , less commercially accepted brand names or for the best dog tips, still btter , make your own homemade animal food. At least then, you will be sure what is in what your lovely friend is digesting .

If you have any worries about the meals you’re feeding your pet discuss with your vet about it.

Don’t be happy with giving your friend bad dog food that is full of poisons .
